Clay Kirkland and Edge-ucate.org
Rock the Mercury Cafe
The raucous tones of one of the world's sweetest harmonicas filled the dance floor above The Mercury Cafe Saturday October 22nd. Long a liberal fixture of the downtown scene, The Merc once again showed its dedication to great causes, hosting over 250 concert goers at the first annual Edge-ucate.org Back to School Benefit Concert.
With a musical lineup that featured Kelly Moon, Carnelian, Mad Cowboys, and Clay Kirkland; an authentic obstacle clearing Indian dance; and, a long awaited marriage proposal by Edge-ucate.org President Josh Anderson, the night truly had something for everybody. Donated Wynkoop beer flowed throughout the night as an eclectic crowd nodded their heads, swayed, and, finally, danced to some of the finest local music the Denver scene has to offer. "This is awesome," said concert goer Ryan Whitenack, "Great music, great cause, and great people... I can't think of a better way to spend a Saturday night." All told the night raised over $3,500 for educational projects in Nepal and future projects in New Orleans. "The really cool thing is that with the money from tonight we can run a school in Nepal for an entire year," Josh Anderson shouted along with Clay's harmonica, "People should feel really good about what they have helped to create by coming down here tonight." The goal was to give people a great night, to let them pay for something they would have already been doing: listening to amazing local music and enjoying some fantastic local beer. Only when you do it with Edge-ucate.org, you can go home knowing that you had a great time and the money you spent went towards a great cause. I think we accomplished that. Thank you very much to all of our supporters and musicians.
